Road Kill

Are you all waiting for me to have an original thought? Me too! It seems lately that so much information is coming in that there is no time for me to think. Kind of like getting ran over on the information highway. That said, I had the lovely opportunity of reiterating to the 1st One of my thoughts on pierced ears.

You see, my mom had never had ears pierced, then about five years ago, she decided that she would pierce her ears so that she could wear her earrings. It was very short lived. She just couldn't leave them open. The thought of putting something through her ears really just grossed her out. So my stance on piercing ears is a lot different than most moms.

I decided that it was my child's choice, since it is my child's body. Knowing that this would not be a good choice for a three year old to make, I decided that I needed to pick an age that would be both appropriate and an age where they would be responsible for caring for them themselves. My religion refers to age eight as the age of accountability. Sounded good to me. We have such few rules like this that you would think that this would not be a huge deal. That......is what I get for thinking. My seven and a half year old is freaking out that she has to wait a whole 5 months to have her ears pierced. I must be the meanest mom out there.

I wouldn't feel like a bad mom for making her wait 5 months!!! I was caught in a moment of indecision, hence Ali's ears. I'm still fighting the battle with Brie. The fact that she freaked when she got stitches out is helping my case in making her wait. That and she isn't too keen on the idea that it might be painful.

Oh you so are. I got my first set of ear piercings at 5 and then again at 10 and then again at 15 and then the last one at 20. But that is the only thing that I have pieced and I have not stopped.

I think you should pierce all of your kids ears to pay them back for piercing yours (and mine when I'm on the other end of the phone!)Ha! Ha!

I had to wait until I was 6 to get mine pierced. I've had nothing but problems with them since. I'm not much of an earring girl so when I do want to wear them I have to punch threw a thin layer of skin which then causes infection. So I can only wear them a few days at a time.

My stance was "when you can take care of them yourself." We chose 12 hoping she'd be responsible then. It ended up being more like 10. I don't remember why. But she did good with them.

I don't wanna grow up...you can't make me said...

You are so CRUEL, mom! I can't BELIEVE she has to wait till EIGHT!!!

My mom made me wait till I was 12. I could hardly stand it. Then when Maybelline was born, my MIL talked me into getting her ears pierced in the mall at six months. They closed up, but we opened them again when she was about eight. The perfect age for her to love them and take care of them.

How pathetic am I that I run out of things to read from my contacts and have to read your blog list favorites?

My dad made we wait until I was 12. And even then he only let me do it because he screwed up big time and felt really bad and I used his guilt as leverage.
